Portlandia: Ben & Brad’s Road Trip Journal

As the sun set on Portland, we landed at Ned Ludd for a dinner of spot-on regional fare showcasing the best northwest produce and old-school wood-fired cooking that honored their namesake. We chatted with the chef about Goldie and our road trip mission and the kitchen more than took care of the appetites we had built up on the long drive. We feasted on homemade pate, amazing local trout, and bleu cheese biscuits and bacon straight out of their hearth oven and served with pear butter.  The staff from the open kitchen kindly labeled our leftovers in sharpie “For The Van.”

The next morning, we tracked down the essential morning cup of Stumptown Coffee at the Ace Hotel, some house made lox and bagels at Kenny & Zuke’s Delicatessen, and a few of our PDX favorites like Bee Local Honey & Woodblock Chocolate.

Bee Local produces hyper-local raw honey from all over Oregon; they set up hives in different neighborhoods to produce location-specific artisan honey. Woodblock is a family run, bean-to-bar chocolate manufactory in Portland and their chocolate is a delicacy. Their bars are also conveniently the perfect size for a road trip snack (and after sandwich treat at any of our Seattle stores)!
